CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
PANCREATIC CANCER COLLECTIVE - COMPUTATIONAL APPROACHES TO IDENTIFYING HIGH-RISK PANCREATIC CANCER POPULATIONSSUBMISSION SITE

Call for Applications:

The Pancreatic Cancer Collective (PCC) invites applications for the Pancreatic Cancer Collective – Computational Approaches to Identifying High Risk Pancreatic Cancer Populations Grant. The Team(s) will develop tools to identify individuals in the general population who are at high risk for pancreatic cancer far earlier than they would otherwise be diagnosed, using information from existing dataset(s) (such as the OptumLabs Data Warehouse*, UK Biobank*, Danish National Patient Registry*, and/or other comparable datasets).

This call will support two Teams, with each Team supporting a different approach to identifying individuals in the general population who are at high risk for pancreatic cancer. One Team is for identifying High Risk Cohorts Through Real World Data and the other Team is for identifying High Risk Cohorts Through Molecular and Genetic Data.

High Risk Cohorts Through Real World Data Team: We invite submission of ideas to develop a tool to prospectively identify high-risk populations for pancreatic cancer. The tool should rely on real-world data commonly collected in the community setting and must be broadly generalizable. The award will support model development and additional funding may be made available for validation of a successful model. Initial validation of the tool may be done internally and/or with other databases.

High Risk Cohorts Through Molecular and Genetic Data Team: We invite submission of ideas for a project that would explore the use of deep genetic characterization of germline DNA in conjunction with phenotypic data to markedly increase the prospective identification of high-risk populations for pancreatic cancer.

Program Guidelines and Application Instructions:

Download Grant Guideline

1. The application includes a text application template and spreadsheet templates for completion and submission.

a) Completed applications must be uploaded on the left-hand side of this page under “Upload Project Applications.”
b) Completed team personnel spreadsheets must be uploaded on the left-hand side of this page under “Upload Spreadsheets.”

2. The spreadsheet templates include:

a) Milestones and deliverables timeline
b) Requested funding and required regulatory approvals per specific aim
c) Budget per year and per institution
d) Personnel tracker

3. Collaborative groups of researchers from diverse institutions are preferred, and all applications must include inter-institutional collaborations

4. Teams are required to have:

Project Summary Statement – Describe the idea for the project and provide justification for the proposed research project with background information.

Impact – Describe how your proposed research would result in real world application for advancing early detection of pancreatic cancer and deliver near-term patient benefit.

Diversity – Compare the demographic characteristics of the database(s) selected for use with the population for which the tool will be applied and describe approaches to reconcile any differences.

Timeline – Provide progress milestones and interim goals for the project.

Team – Identify Key Personnel, i.e. Team Leader, Team Co-leader, and no more than four additional Team Principals, whose expertise would contribute successfully to the suggested research project. Each Team must also include a Team Project Manager. Team Leader and Co-leader must be from different institutions.

Key Literature References – References to publications supporting the proposed research project may be included and do not count toward the two-page limit. In addition, the submission of an NIH Biosketch is required for the Team Leader, Co-leader, and all Principals. Do not exceed five (5) pages per individual. The NIH Biosketch template is available for download at Grants.nih.gov.

5. Projects should be planned for two years with second year contingent on progress in year one.

6. The scale of the project must not exceed $1 million US total.

7. Letters of Support from leadership at each institution and company involved with the Team are required.

8. Please submit your application by Friday, December 14th, 2018, at 12:00pm noon Eastern Daylight time using this website. All Finalists will be required to submit a detailed budget by Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 by 12:00 p.m. (noon) U.S. Eastern Time.

9. Notification: The Finalists will be notified during the second week of January and will be invited to present the proposal at an in-person selection meeting to be held on January 30th, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. The selected team will be notified mid-February. Regulatory requirements must be in place before funding is disbursed.
